About Santa Irini Retreat

Santa Irini Retreat is an intimate luxury heritage retreat on the Greek island of Therasia, within the Santorini caldera and a short boat ride from Ammoudi Port, below Oia. Founded by Dimitris Kriezis and Paris Savvidis, it offers travellers a peaceful and deeply personal alternative to Santorini’s busier resorts.

The retreat comprises the carefully restored historic Nikos Suite; three newly built suites completed in 2021—Theodosia, Avgi and Margarita—designed in harmony with Therasia’s traditional Cycladic architecture and landscape; and two independently accessed Heritage Rooms on a lower level, Sofia and Efterpi, each with an en-suite bathroom. The entire retreat may also be reserved for the exclusive use of one private party—whether for an intimate stay, a wedding celebration or a gathering of family and friends—with accommodation for up to 18 guests.

At the heart of Santa Irini Retreat, surrounded by its vineyard and courtyard, stands Santa Irini—the historic Church of Agia Irini from which the retreat takes its name. The present church was completed in 1867, while an earlier church on the site is believed to date from between the 12th and 14th centuries. Its dedication also reflects the wider history of the archipelago: the name Santorini is generally understood to derive from Santa Irini, the Venetian rendering of Saint Irene.

Rooted in the living traditions of Therasia, the retreat brings together understated luxury, privacy and panoramic views towards Santorini across the caldera and over the Aegean Sea. Its hospitality is expressed through seasonal ingredients from the estate’s vegetable garden, traditional dishes prepared in the wood-fired oven, local volcanic wines and shared meals around the communal table.

For couples, families and private groups seeking an authentic Greek island experience away from the crowds, Santa Irini Retreat offers a meaningful connection to the landscape, gastronomy, heritage and community of Therasia.
